What is it?

Raster Velocity is an anti-gravity racing game in pixel art. Sixteen hover ships on the grid, thirteen circuits in thirteen different worlds, loops and banked turns, weapons you can fire or absorb to refill your energy, and a techno soundtrack that the game synthesizes live and that builds up with the race.

Win the Grand Prix cups one after the other, then race in Single Race and Time Trial, with medals to chase and your own ghost to beat.

Features

• 4 Grand Prix cups, 13 circuits: a seaside riviera at sunset, a mountain pass above the clouds, a neon port in a thunderstorm, the canyons of Mars, a crystal cave, a glowing forest, the North Pole under the aurora, the abyss, an orbital ring, cherry blossoms, a titan foundry, a vertical city and a digital world
• 16 ships on the track, 3 difficulty levels: Novice, Pilot, Elite
• 6 ships with their own handling, including 2 to win
• Energy is your shield and your turbo fuel: recharge strips, boost pads, airbrakes for tight turns
• Weapons: homing missile, mines, shield, super turbo, shockwave, or absorb them to recharge
• Loops, banked turns, jumps and changing weather (rain, snow, storms)
• A techno soundtrack synthesized live: the drop lands on GO, the music opens up with your speed, the last lap builds up
• Time Trial with gold, silver and bronze medals and the ghost of your best run
• 30 achievements, a podium ceremony at the end of each cup, new cups, circuits and ships to unlock
• Keyboard or Xbox-style controller, full screen, 7 languages

The browser demo

• The Sun Cup (3 circuits) in Grand Prix, then Single Race and Time Trial on its circuits once you win it

Controls

• WASD layout (OPTIONS > CONTROLS > KEYBOARD): WASD or arrows to drive, X weapon, the other keys stay the same

• On screen, the prompts follow the device you use; on AZERTY keyboards they show the real keys
• F11: full screen

Requirements

• Full game on Windows: Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, about 400 MB. The game is not signed with a paid certificate, so Windows SmartScreen may ask you to confirm the first launch ("More info", then "Run anyway").
• Full game on Mac: macOS 13 Ventura or later, Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later), about 330 MB. The game is not notarized by Apple: for the first launch, use System Settings > Privacy & Security > Open Anyway (details in the install instructions shown with the download).
• Browser demo: a recent desktop browser (tested in Chromium, Firefox and Safari), keyboard or controller. Click in the game to enable the keyboard and the sound. Controller: Chrome and Edge on Windows may not detect Xbox controllers (a known browser issue); it works in Firefox, and in the full game. Not tested on phones.

Accessibility and photosensitivity

The game shows lightning, explosions and flashing lights. OPTIONS > SCREEN > REDUCED MOTION removes lightning, screen flashes, speed lines, dust gusts and glitch effects, and reduces shaking; OPTIONS > RACE > WEATHER > ALWAYS CLEAR removes rain, snow and storms. Also in the options: STEERING ASSIST, AUTO THRUST and two keyboard layouts.

Languages

English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Simplified Chinese and Japanese, in the menus and the help texts. English and French are reviewed; Italian, German, Spanish, Simplified Chinese and Japanese are AI translations not yet reviewed by native speakers: corrections are welcome in the comments. The announcer and in-race messages are in English.
